Autism Focused Teaching Strategies (MOTE Marine Lab)

In this study students will work in collaboration with Marine Lab in Key Largo, Florida. They will develop adapted teaching materials and activities for Marine Lab to use with children with autism. They will also develop and deliver customized autism training and assess knowledge and gained staff satisfaction before and after the collaboration.

Social Determinants of Health and Swimming (FIU Thrive)

This project will work in collaboration with researchers at FIU thrive. Students will conduct a landscape analysis and literature analysis of current applications available for water safety and swim instruction and the significance of drowning prevention across the lifespan. They will then create a database containing a curated list of swim programs.

Effectiveness of Water Safety Training of Children with Autism

This study will work directly with parents of children with autism to compare water safety knowledge before and after water safety training. The training may be provided remotely through the use of the American Red Cross Water Safety Education for Parents model or in-person in a workshop using a guide created by a graduate student in Recreational Therapy.
