Assessment for Auditory Reactivity in Autism
The Pediatric Khalfa Hyperacusis Questionnaire (PHQ)
Auditory hyper-reactivity is estimated to effect approximately ___ % of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Currently there are no gold standard assessments of auditory hyper-reactivity. A valid and reliable assessment is required for treatment planning and monitoring treatment outcomes. The Modified Khalfa Hyperacusis Questionnaire (Khalfa, 2002) has been well studied and validated in adult populations in several languages. Our lab has modified the adult version of the Khalfa (with permission) to create the Pediatric Khalfa Hyperacusis Questionnaire. This project evaluates: the relevance and validity of the PHQ as well as the reliability of the PHQ as an assessment tool for evaluating auditory hyper-reactivity in children with and without ASD. Research was also conducted to analyze the validity of the PHQ assessment when undergoing review by clinical professionals.

Screen Time and Eye Movements
“How have eye movements changed since the invention of the smart phone?”
As occupational therapists, we are interested in oculomotor function- an essential skill for eye-hand coordination and many of our activities of daily living. We are also curious about how engagement in every day activities (such as screen time) can impact our ability to function (i.e., eye movements and reading skills). This study investigates correlations between screen time and saccade eye movement speed as well as reading speed. This study also analyzes whether eye movements in youth today (2020) differ from youth before the invention of smart phones and "screen time" on mobile devices (1990).
